AO Network - Minimum Amount of AO needed for transactions
As the AO network continues to transition from Beta to Mainnet, starting the 15th of September 2025, users will need to hold a minimum amount of $AO tokens in their Wander wallet in order transact on the AO network or use dApps on AO.
If you have received the error message: "Not enough $AO tokens", that means you do not have enough $AO tokens in your wallet. Therefore, you need to add more $AO tokens to your Wander wallet or wait an hour since your last transaction / message before trying again.
The minimums are as follows*:
- 0.1 AO = 1 message/hour
- 1 AO = 10 messages/hour
- 2 AO = 20 messages/hour
- 10 AO = 100 messages/hour
*Messages and transactions are the same on the AO network.
If you have reached your hourly transaction / message limit, you can deposit more $AO tokens into your Wander wallet to increase your hourly limit. The $AO token deposit needs to be fully confirmed onchain before your hourly limit is increased. Depending on network congestion, full, onchain confirmation can take between a few minutes to over one hour.
$AO tokens can be acquired in numerous ways:
- Via the AO Fair Launch program
- Swapping for $AO on Botega, PermaSwap, Vento, or a CEX
- Bridge $USDC on ETH or $AR on Arweave to the AO network via AOX or Vento and then swap the bridged assets for $AO
Please note, this is NOT a requirement from Wander, but from the AO network and the AO team. This policy was implemented by the AO team in oder to lowers spam in the network, while also allowing users a way to gain access to higher rate limits for pushing messages. This may be adjusted over time to work the best. This is a step towards preparing the network for gas requirements on mainnet—implementing these measures on testnet first and strengthening the network user capacity!
If you have any questions or feedback, you are reach out to the AO Team directly via their discord.
